Y’all. My cousin has done it again. Earlier this week, the final installment of her second trilogy released. I’m a little late to the party celebrating this exciting launch, but hopefully late is still better than never!
The Reactionary concludes Kristen’s exciting Rouges trilogy, and trust me when I say these need to be your next read! The series takes us on Portia Abernathy’s roller coaster journey to pursuing truth and justice in a nation which gives its citizens anything but these rights.
During a short stint at the Crystal Globe University, Portia begins to uncover more and more of the secrets being kept by the government she had once aspired to be a part of. Now, disenchanted with the facade put up by the current government, Portia risks everything to fight for true freedom.
The middle of the revolution which began in book two is where The Reactionary picks up. Now, the stakes intensify as Portia begins to more fully understand that her government is not the only problematic ruling body keeping her nation in bondage. With drone strikes, an eventful trip to seek out international allies, and being separated from the people she loves yet again, Portia struggles to cling to hope and wonders what her future holds.
This struggle for hope is where the Reactionary stands out from other popular dystopian novels. Rather than wander aimlessly through these struggles, Portia meets God and begins to lean on him when the odds are against her and the Brotherhood, a ragtag band of rebels gathered by her older brother. Instead, as Portia asks questions such as…
- Why is this happening?
- Does anyone care about me and my nation?
- Will I ever see my loved ones again?
- Will I lose myself along the way?
she begins to see that the Lord is holding her in his hands even when life does not make sense. This is the hope Portia must cling to as the fight for freedom continues.
